At my shared homes in Southwest Atlanta, I've always aimed to offer more than just affordable housing—I want to help my residents build financial stability. That's why I'm excited to announce a new benefit that I am currently working on and launching this fall: positive rent reporting to credit bureaus.
Why This Matters
Our lease agreement already includes a clause allowing for negative credit reporting in cases of non-payment. Thankfully, I've rarely had to use it. Most tenants consistently pay on time.
Over time, several residents have asked me:
"How can I build credit with rent payments?"
"Can I get credit for paying on time?"
In the past, I answered: "Just download the Self app—it allows individuals to self-report payments and build credit."
That's still a good tool. But now, I'm taking it a step further. I am offering an integrated rent reporting solution. That is how I differentiate from most private landlords, as the positive rent reporting is something most private landlords don't offer.
I work with young people. Most of my tenants are 21 - 26 years old, and people who are new in the Atlanta area, looking for affordable, flexible housing options. I want those young professionals, from out of state, and I also have locals who are starting a new chapter. For some, renting a fully furnished room is their first-ever rental. My residents deserve the same opportunities as someone renting from a large management company (even if they’re paying twice as much).
Rent is the biggest monthly expense for most people, no matter what they are renting at this moment in life. Let’s make it count. Improving your credit could help you:
- Get a car loan (I’ve seen tenants go from MARTA to their first car)
- Qualify for a credit card or personal loan
- Secure better interest rates
- Move closer to homeownership
Starting September 2025: Positive Rent Reporting Goes Live
Beginning this September, I will begin reporting on-time rent payments to all three major credit bureaus: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. This means your responsible rent history will now directly support your credit profile, just like a loan or credit card would.
A Note for Former Tenants If you are a former tenant, please feel free to reach out to me, and I can report past payments to help improve your credit at no cost to you, as a valued client.
A Note for Future Tenant: No need to say thank you. It’s in our mutual interest to reward good financial habits.
